Honolulu, HI - This past Father’s Day weekend, I attended the 2nd annual Build The Track! Motorsports Show at Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have been discussing this opportunity to be part of the Mooneyes family and this event was the first chapter for Pacific Rod and Street.

Mike Kitchens coordinated this event to bring awareness of the lack of a motorsport facility on the island of Oahu as many racers now ship their vehicles to the neighbor island for weekend drag races. The event generated hundreds of written support for such a facility while displaying various motorsport vehicles.

Down Hot Rod alley, Hiro "Wildman" Ishii’s Moon Disc artwork attracted attention as spectator’s voted for the People’s Choice Award amongst these classic hot rods and musclecars. Laurie Miyagawa took the "People’s Choice Award" with her Dark Anglia. It was a very close contest as the winner won by just two votes as the ballots were recounted multiple times! There were many nice cars at the pier this Father’s Day Weekend.

Fronting the Pacific Rod and Street booth was Mike Merrell’s Duster which he recently purchased while attending the swap meet at Pomona, CA. Initially searching for a GM vehicle, the Duster was the steal of the day and after some negotiating, it was headed for its new home in Hawaii. Bees and Yellowjackets are attracted to his car as it sports a nice shade of yellow. This, of course, matches the Mooneyes accessories on the car. This car can really rumble.

Along side of the Duster was a ’63 Chevrolet Impala owned by Morgan Pattison which went through a frame-off restoration in the house garage. The car sports 20” wheels around on air bags driven by a small-block, 4-speed drivetrain. The red shade paint job just glistened in the afternoon sun. Very nice car. Plans call for a blower to be mounted on that motor. That will be cool…

Another car getting tons of digital photo shots was the dark GT500 fastback with a spotless undercarriage displaying detailed engineering. This is one, rare fastback. In the drag racing section next to the Jr. Dragsters was Moses’ V8 Toyota with a straight-front chromed axle. This was done in his unsurfaced driveway. Unbelieveable!

That was fun! I think Hawaii was waiting for Mooneyes to enter the islands and now that we are finally here, I am sure we will see more yellow Mooneyes antenna balls around. If only there were more cars with antennas…

Mahalo and Aloha to everyone for making this event such a success!
